Air box delete?

Hey guys, I had an idea to get rid of the airbox and snorkel and stuff and just attach the filter to the carb intake boot. I would put a outerwears over it, but do you think this would be beneficial? Any issues etc?
thanks!

No more beneficial than removing the airbox lid as it will get more air than it can inhale with the lid off of it,and the airbox will protect the filter somewhat from splashed mud,water,grit,etc...Personally,I prefer my motors to last as long as possible being trouble free as long as possible, and seeing as you're not street racing only, you'll eventually hit water,or mud,and it'll be that much easier for it to get sucked into the air filter...

I understand what you mean.
I just figured that since theres like no obstruction with the filter out in the open and no snorkel it'd get more air...

Your air filter will only flow so many cfm(cubic feet per minute),and with the lid off the airbox,it is exposed to as much air as it could possibly draw without exposing it to anything that could become negative rather quickly...

How much HP are you expected to gain and you have to weight the options of hp gain vs engine life.

I personally wouldn't do it because the amount of power you'll gain isn't worth sacrificing the reliability.

You’ll also have to be careful when crossing wet or muddy terrain, the open air box will help block some of that crap out but you are fully exposed without it.

To expand your idea in another direction, why even use the airbox when snorkeling?? Why not just snorkel direct fom the engine's intake to the front of the bike and have filter and filter housing up front and up top? An automotive filter assembly or similar could even be used wirhin another vented box protecting it from the elements,

Two 06 TRX250EXs.....Tusk nerf bars, swing arm skid plates

this is far from true. There's a reason people pull the entire airbox when they are looking for the best performance gains. airbox removal will also shed a lbs or 2, but it will for sure allow for better intake flow.

Also if you delete your stock air box you may need to re jet or adjust your carb to compensate the lose and increase of mixtures.
