oil change frequency

On a recon. lets say it is run daily. Some days may be a short run. other days might see more run time, but run time even on other days is probably less than 10 minutes total. basicaly short runs around the house, some longer than others. And this thing runs so cool it is hard to get the oil hot. So this would probably be considered rougher service. How often should i change the oil? I dont want to change it too often? but i am not sure often to change it for best engine life? I cant judge the color to oil quality yet. So how often would u change the oil considering my circumstances? I am probably way over thinking this considering how long hondas run with hardly any maintenance, for what this thing is going to cost me, i want it to last.

later!! chris

I change prior to the season with the least use. Motor oil gets contaminated with acids as a byproduct of combustion blowby and most feel best to store an engine with fresh oil. I doubt it really makes a noticable difference.

i change my oil in all my bikes..every year..then again..i do not ride alot !!..soooooo..with that being said...it's not just how many hours..miles you ride..it's also how you ride it during those miles and hours !!..muddy..dusty conditions plays a part in how often you change the oil. what bothers me on oil changes ????..is that stupid oil filter pick up screen inside the damn motor !!!..this is a very important part !!..and yet..you can not clean it..or change it...without splitting the motor !!..well..one side of it anyway on most motors !.....soooooo..your left with only the oil and oil fliter on the outside, honda needs to make the engines easier to remove this filter screen !. other than this ??.like i mentioned as far as how and when i change my oil.

I change my oil very frequently I'm just like to make sure they are over maintained.Mainly because I forget when I did it last, but my 450 I change the oil every 10-15 hours due to the high rpm and wear characteristics of the engine. The 250ex gets an oil change when the oil starts changing colors.

Honda recommends a 100 hour OCI on the 2012 400X. I have been running about 10 hours and changing the oil/filter. For $12 per oil change, it is cheap peace of mind. There is NO way I would run oil for 100 hours in a shared sump engine/trans.

I run the expensive stuff, full synthetic mobil 1. I go longer than I use to because it holds up to wear better. Thee oil in my fourtrax never turns color, the engine is so clean that it stays golden, that being said, when you pull the dipstick and rub the oil in between your fingers you can tell when its breaking down. Mine usually goes once or twice a year, depending on how hot it is and how hard I run it, I ran about 80 hours and about 600 miles this last season, oils still feeling good. But will get changed this month anyways...

Whatever is currently in one piece... 400 prairie with stuff, 300 fourtrax, 500 sportsman, yz 125...

They charge alot for a basic oil change?? My old boss had an 04?? Foreman ES camo and the dealer used to charge him $160 to do a ''service''. They changed oil, oil filter and air filter. All with OEM parts.
