AGAIN!!! ARGH!!!!! 1982 ATC200 Help PLEASE!!!

First thing, IM GETTING REALLY TICKED OFF!!!!!! Now that, that's out of the way here's the deal, when its hot outside it runs good, not great, but good, but when the temp drops it will not crank. The temp doesn't even have to drop that much. Im talking a 10 degree temp difference throws it off. The craziest thing ive ever seen. Maybe its just a coincidence but it just seems odd to me. I took it to the shop and the guy told me it was something electrical but I have no clue what. I did some searching online and found several people that had a similar problem and most people suggested that is was the ignition coil. Any ideas?

thanks for the info. i tried the hair dryer trick but no luck. im not getting any spark at all now. i was told to test my strator, cdi, coil, and grounds and connectors, but i have no clue how (grounds and connectors is obvious im not THAT ignorant lol). I know where they are located but dont know how to test them. i am assuming a volt meter of sorts and check the power output as someone yanks on the recoil?

You can test all those components, other than the CDI, with an ohmmeter. You want to check the resistance, not the voltage, so no need to pull the recoil rope. When you're checking resistance, you don't want any power on the circuit or you will get incorrect readings and/or possibly damage your meter. The service manual will list the specs. You could do peak voltage tests on the components, but the service manual doesn't list the specs for peak voltage, so you wouldn't know what they're supposed to read.

There's really no way to accurately test a CDI other than replacing it with a known good one. So, generally, you test all the other components first and if they're good, you replace the CDI last.

Most 4-wheeler problems are caused by a loose nut connecting the handlebars and the seat!!

You only need two tools in life -- WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

My way to test the cdi: when it dosen't want to start hit the cdi with a screwdriver handle or something a few times and try to start it. I have started many a 3wheelers that way it just may suprise you.

Ok I feel like a dummy. I checked the plug for giggles and it was indeed bad. It was less than a couple months old so I didn't even think about it. One of the guys my brother works with messes with old trikes a lot and he said old Honda's like this are bad about fouling a plug, he never goes riding without at least two spares. Could this be a problem and if so what should I check first? I have just gotten a meter but haven't had the chance to test anything yet. Thanks for all your help and patience guys.
